microDAW is an audio playback, recording, and editing app specifically designed to capture the time-honored feel users expect in Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). One of our primary design goals is to provide the user with a familiar DAW environment,…..

cool mini audio editor

I think the app is really cool, and I can see myself using it as a way to turn the iPhone into a field recorder. Using the app I recorded myself snapping my fingers, found some cool sounding bits, zoomed-in and copy/pasted ... and then created a basic rhythmic loop. Then added some fades to make it more interesting sounding.
The zoom on this app is awesome - it's impressive how you can quickly get from high level to a sample level. Using your fingers to zoom in on a waveform is fun.
There are a few things that I wished for - normalization, reverse, audio effects ... but I dig that these things will probably come over time.
The interface took a minute or so to get used to. I recommend users read the built-in help documentation to learn how to use all the app's features.
I also used the app on my iPad, and even with the scaling didn't look bad at all.
Not a DAW ... but not bad
Jeffrey Beaumont write:
This looks very promising but has some frustrating flaws. Most importantly the edit functions are funky and some of the buttons are tiny.
Double Tap and Drag is misnamed. It is actually tap and drag. Its non-standard and hard to do consistantly if like me you have fat, somewhat dry fingertips. I tried on and off for two days to get it to work until I realised it was tap once then PRESS and drag.
Lack of external mic support limits it usefulness especially considering it lack of copy and paste from other apps.
Otherwise microDAW works as advertised and provides a cost effective editing app. With a few tweaks, support for external stereo mics and some more work on the interface, it could be great.
I have been looking for a versatile audio recording and editing app for a while now with mixed results, and after experimenting with various free apps I decided to give a purchased app a try. As a student and a musician I was looking for an app that would allow me to do anything from recording lectures to capturing song ideas on the fly, and this app delivers on both fronts. I love the large waveform view which allows me to use visual cues to scroll through long audio files to locate and extract different sections of a lecture, or a jam session, and the editing functions allow me to do quick editing on the phone without needing to export to another app or software. In the future I hope they add multi-tracking capabilities, and perhaps some more advanced editing functions, but as far as any of the audio apps I have tried, this is one of the most versatile and in my opinion, one of the best available.
